For over twenty years, Kansas City FilmFest has brought audiences and films and filmmakers together to celebrate the power of storytelling through the cinematic arts.
As Kansas City’s flagship film festival, KC FilmFest is the largest and longest held competition & curated film festival in Kansas City, and host to filmmakers, judges and artists from around the country and the world. This year will attract over 8,000 people to 5 days of films, panels, seminars, receptions, parties and after-parties. KC FilmFest hosts over 70 visiting filmmakers and 14 Final Jurors. Previous years have welcomed guests such as Don Cheadle, Rob Riggle, Jason London, Brandy Burre, Bob Gale and more; appearing before sold out audiences at screenings and seminars.
Festival highlight Friday night: THE SCENT OF RAIN AND LIGHTNING, based on the book of the same name, will receive its Midwest Premiere at KC FilmFest. Director Blake Robbins (Sons of Anarchy) will attend. The book is written by Nancy Pickard- author of eighteen popular and critically acclaimed novels, including the Jenny Cain and Marie Lightfoot mystery series. Nancy, a Kansas/MO native, will also attend.
Saturday night, award-winning actress Shelly Long will attend the Red Carpet Premiere for DIFFERENT FLOWERS. Also in attendance will be Director, KC native, Morgan Dameron. Her freshman outing, Morgan’s film sold out three screenings at its premiere at the Santa Barbara Film Festival.
THE DOG FILM FESTIVAL is a celebration of dogs and the joy people have for their dogs! A benefit screening will be held in conjunction with festival partner KC Pet Project, sponsored by Petco and Bayer Animal Health. This collection of short films is touring the United States with KC FilmFest as its only stop in Missouri/Kansas. In addition, a Pooch Party for people and their dogs will take place Saturday night at the Sheraton Hotel. For $50 tickets, attendees can bring their dogs and enjoy “Dog”tails and “Yapp”itizers, special doggie treats, Doggy VIP Swag Bags, a green carpet and photo opportunity. All proceeds benefit the KC Pet Project!
KC FilmFest will offer a cutting edge VIRTUAL REALITY EXHIBIT for people to experience free of charge! This a smaller scale presentation of the VR Exhibit done by Oculus at Sundance. Sponsored by Chase-this is a project to help create awareness and help young people with Autism. Additional Virtual Reality experiences will also be on site for everyone to enjoy!
Also featured at Sundance, STEP (documentary) and PATTIE CAKE$, brought to KC FilmFest by Fox Searchlight.
